Who can use this service?

Full or part-time students from any of our locations, faculty and staff are eligible to use this service. Special borrowers, alumni and all other types of users do not qualify for interlibrary loan service.

What kinds of materials can be ordered?

Books and periodical article photocopies are the most common requests. Because of slow delivery rates, only materials available in the United States will be ordered.

Copyright law requires that anyone requesting more than two articles from the same journal must pay royalty fees. All such fees will be fully passed on to the requester, and average about $30.00 each.

Audio-visual resources are generally not available for loan, although a limited number of videos are available from the State Library.

Reference books and antiquarian books are not usually lent. Occasionally, books considered rare will be sent with a "use in library only" stipulation. Only people who can come to Moye Library would benefit from such a loan.

What does it cost?

For most interlibrary loans, there are no charges.  For loans with charges, the library will cover expenses up to $7.50.  When the cost is greater, you may be asked to pay a part of the fee and will be contacted with a specific price.  Orders requiring a fee will not be placed without your approval.

What is the delivery timeframe?

Two weeks is the average time for materials to arrive. Some items can be received in a matter of a few hours, if they are held locally and can be faxed. For very popular or new books, sometimes the request must be reordered.

How is the resource delivered?

Journal articles can be sent to the student or faculty member via fax or email. Delivery options are available for books.

How long may the resources be kept?

Photocopies are yours to keep. For all other items, the lending libraries have a specified date for it to be at their library. Return items a minimum of five days before the due date and ask the center employee to expedite the return to Moye Library. The due date is on the strip inserted in the book.

You are encouraged to complete your research by the original due date. If it is absolutely necessary to request a renewal, you should contact Heather Braswell prior to the date the material is due. Not all libraries will grant renewals.

Do not keep materials borrowed from other libraries past their due dates. To do so jeopardizes our borrowing relationship with other libraries and also your privilege to borrow interlibrary loans in the future.  Overdue fines may be assessed.

How are requests for interlibrary loans placed?

Use the forms provided by the library staff or e-mail requests directly to Heather Braswell. Telephone requests are not taken. People using NC LIVE can e-mail citations to their e-mail accounts, add personal information needed and then forward them to Heather Braswell, simplifying the bibliographic data process required.  Also, the online interlibrary loan request for books or articles can be filled out and e-mailed, faxed, mailed, or otherwise delivered to the library.

*PLEASE NOTE BEFORE OPENING FORMS: Off-site users may get a message that says the form itself will not be sent, but the data will be. This just means that while we do not receive the form in the format you see on the screen, the data entered is put into an xml file format.  Off-site users will also be asked to identify what kind of email provider you use when the "Submit by email" button is clicked.  If you use an internet e-mail provider, the file will be saved in xml format on your computer so that you can attach it to a new email.
